Introduction
The N.F.L is on the verge of incorporating a rule that will limit a whole lot of contact that would typically involve the head. The rule is that plaerys who run the ball inside the tackle box may no longer lower when a defender is about to make contact with them. This only seems due to the rule change made last year that a defensive player may no longer lower is head when making a tackle. These rule changes are just some of many that the N.F.L are making to try and eliminate dangerous situations for the player's. Many claim that the reason why the league has to make so many changes now is simply because the athletes are bigger and stronger than they were back in the day. However this is not the main reason for brain injuries related to sports, the main reason lies within our youth. Review
The N.F.L is making a number of rule changes to prevent brain injuries in current day football. Many believe the problems the league faces today are due to athletes being bigger and stronger. But I strongly disagree. Yes, one of the reasons why athletes particularly in the professional levels are suffering brain damage are because they are strong and fast but that is not the main reason. Is it really fair to penalize athletes who are having trouble adapting to all the rules that are currently being established in the league today?
Response
In sports there is a famous saying that goes like this, “practice makes perfect, and how you practice is how you play”. For successful athletes there is no greater truth, and because of this I believe that the only way we are going too truly change the league for the better is if we start young. The game of football or in any sport for that matter is a game of repetition the more you practice something the better and more natural you become at whatever you are practicing. Athletes at the professional level have been playing and practicing a certain way all their lives. So for someone to change the game on them and tell them that their not allowed to do certain things all of a sudden is simply not fair to them. If you want your athletes to play a certain way you have to start and your youth leagues. You have to reach out to these youth leagues and educate these leagues on how the proper way to play in order to be as safe as possible. You cannot tell a person one day that they cannot do this or that after they have been doing things a certain way all their lives. There for it is not fair to punish athletes who are playing the only way they know how.
Conclusion
In conclusion only way to fix the problem that the league is facing today is to reach out to the youth leagues and educated the athletes on the way you want them to play the game before they learn bad habits. This problem will not be solved overnight; this will be a problem that may always be relevant. But the earlier you get these athletes the better of they will be.
